My name is Bethany and I’m the founder of Candor Magazine. I started to realize how much my own parenting journey had gone off the rails after I became pregnant with my Oooops! Surprise Tinder Baby at age 30. I was recently divorced from a pastor and found myself in a community I had never been in before: marginalized parents.
You know what I’m talking about. You know that thing where something happens and how you imagined your life as a parent is just…over? Maybe things felt normal before but now you’ve been “othered.” You’re not like the Other parents. You don’t fit into the same categories as the Others.
Candor is a resource and a community for just that- it’s for us Other parents. We’re the parents whose lives are turned upside down when our kids receive an unexpected diagnosis. We’re the LGBTQIA+ parents. We’re the parents raising LGBTQIA+ kids. We’re the parents who lay up at night worried about raising our kids in the #MeToo and #YesAllMen world. We’re the parents who are worried about the children in cages at the US borders.
Candor is the meeting place for parents who feel alone to get connected. It’s the place where we can pull together and find practical ways to make sure that nobody feels Othered, and that no parent has to feel alone.
